𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰. Sarah had been leading a department for two years. People respected her. Trusted her judgment. Came to her with problems. Then the quarterly review meeting happened. Senior management questioned a strategy she had championed. Everyone in the room knew it wasn't working perfectly, but it also wasn't a disaster. It needed tweaking, not scrapping. But when they pushed back, something shifted in Sarah's face. Instead of saying "You're right, let's adjust this approach," she doubled down. 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 for not following instructions properly. 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 at market conditions that everyone knew were predictable. Made excuses that everyone in the room could see right through. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻. The moment she chose protecting her image over protecting her credibility. The moment she threw her team under the bus to save face. After that meeting, everything changed. - People stopped bringing her problems. - They started having the real conversations without her. - They stopped believing her when she said "I've got your back." 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁. That's when I understood: "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗜𝘀 𝗧𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗴𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁." - Your team doesn't need you to be perfect. - They need you to be honest when you're not. - They need you to own your mistakes before someone else points them out.
