In countless Indian households, women are celebrated as the backbone of the family; the nurturers, caretakers, and silent warriors who hold everything together. Yet behind the warm smiles and unwavering support lies a quiet tragedy: Indian women often neglect their own health in their quest to care for everyone else. I grew up watching the women in my family — my mother, my grandmother, always putting themselves last. Meals were served to everyone else first; their own plates filled only after the family was satisfied. Without realizing it, I internalized that blueprint: love meant sacrifice, and sacrifice meant silence. The consequences of this self-neglect are grave. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), more than 50% of Indian women are anemic, and rising cases of lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and depression are going undiagnosed or untreated. I learned this firsthand when my own health collapsed. The fatigue I brushed off as “normal” turned into a diagnosis I never imagined - “Crohn’s Disease” Here is a small effort with my words to let WOMEN realise how their health is important above over anything else. #SheMatters #HealthFirstForHer
