#ThrowbackThursday : Some places are meant to be seen. Others are meant to be felt. When I walked in at the Thean Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on an early Sunday morning, I assumed I’d spend fifteen minutes there. But somehow, I ended up staying much longer. Maybe it was the sea of red lanterns, maybe it was the smell of incense, or maybe it was just one of those places that quietly asks you to slow down. By 9 a.m., the city was already awake, but up here things felt less rushed somehow. Built by Kuala Lumpur’s Hainanese community and dedicated to Mazu, the Heavenly Queen and Goddess of the Sea, this is one of the largest Chinese temples in Southeast Asia. I found it oddly beautiful that a Sea Goddess watches over a bustling city from a hilltop. But what I loved most was simply watching life unfold around me. People praying, tourists clicking pictures, grandparents chatting, children running around, and me, somewhere in between, just happy to be there. I also did what everyone seems to do and looked for my Chinese zodiac sign among the statues. 😄 Apparently, many devotees come here with wishes in their hearts. I don’t know about miracles, but I do know I quietly made one of my own. 🤞🏻✨♥️🧿 #traveldiaries #apinchofsalt
