Reading time with Vihaan 📚 As a mom who loves introducing meaningful books to Vihaan, I’m always happy when we find something that makes history feel alive and exciting. Recently, Vihaan picked up “History Unpacked: The Why, When and What of Medieval India (Not Forgetting the Who and Where)” by Saisudha Acharya, beautifully illustrated by Rohit Bhasi. What I really liked about this book is that it doesn’t present history as simple heroes and villains. Instead, it explains how medieval India was complex, connected and constantly evolving. From slave-sultans and temple endowments to Persianate courts, Indian Ocean trade, cultural exchanges and religious negotiations, the book shows how different systems shaped that time. Another thoughtful aspect is how it gently introduces young readers to the idea that history comes from sources and chroniclers who sometimes had their own perspectives and agendas. That’s such an important lesson for curious young minds. Written for ages 10+, the storytelling and illustrations make it engaging while still encouraging deeper thinking. It’s the kind of book that doesn’t just teach facts — it encourages children to ask questions and explore history with curiosity. A wonderful addition to young readers’ shelves for anyone who wants to understand the past beyond simple summaries.
