No matter where you are in life, nobody really teaches you consistency. It’s a word we’ve heard everywhere. “21 days to build a habit.” “Don’t break the streak.” “Discipline over motivation.” We’ve turned consistency into a productivity hack. A gym routine. A morning alarm. A checklist. But consistency is so much more than that. Consistency is watching your friends grow older and somehow loving them more with every version they become. It’s staying through their bad moods, their heartbreaks, their wrong decisions. It’s feeling hurt when someone hurts them. It’s remembering who they were at 16 and choosing who they are at 26. Consistency is showing up to a job on days you feel inspired and on days you don’t. It’s learning, unlearning, failing quietly and trying again. It’s building something slowly when nobody is clapping for you yet. It’s not quitting just because the excitement faded and the work became routine. Consistency is loving someone even when you’re far away. It’s choosing the same person in silence. It’s still showing up in effort, even when you can’t show up in person. Consistency is being with family without physically being present. It’s calling back. Checking in. Sending the photo. It’s rolling your eyes at them and still wanting to sit next to them at every table. It’s not dramatic. It’s not loud. It’s rarely impressive. It’s choosing to improve instead of constantly starting over. It’s understanding that not every season will feel exciting, but that doesn’t make it meaningless. It’s the small decision to stay connected when it would be easier to drift. It’s the simple decision you make every single day to stay. And nobody teaches you that. You just learn it when you realise that the most beautiful things in your life weren’t built in 21 days. They were built in all the days you didn’t quit.
