Mumbai, everyday away from you is really a day away from them. From inside jokes that don’t need context, from laughter that spills out of kitchens, from people who know my silences better than my sentences. I miss the way love in you is never announced. It just shows up. In a tap on the shoulder. In extra food on my plate. In someone asking if I’ve reached, even when they know I always do. Here, nights end too quietly. There, they dissolve into conversations that never planned to last. I miss being seen without explaining myself, miss the comfort of being unfinished and still completely held. You make presence feel like home. Not a place, but a feeling I slip back into the moment I arrive. They’re still living their lives back there, adding stories I’m not in yet. Saving me a seat. Keeping things steady so I have somewhere to come back to. Mumbai, you don’t just carry a city. You carry my people. And as long as you do, distance never feels permanent. Just a waiting.
