PSA to all my South Asians out there: if you’re not using your social media to speak up about #BlackLivesMatter right now, you need to seriously ask yourself why. Confront the privileges you are awarded due to anti-blackness. Even if we’re not white, we still benefit from white privilege and the model minority myth. Use your time to have a conversation about what’s going on in the world with your peers, coworkers and call out your friends for not saying something about it, if they aren’t. Donate. Sign petitions. Amplify black voices. Do your research. Do not share traumatic videos from arrests or protests that dehumanise black people. Read about black history and racism. Be committed to the fight against anti-blackness and work towards being an abolitionist. Hold the institutions you’re a part of accountable. Give your time and energy to this movement and stay committed to it’s work. Check your friends who say “alllivesmatter” or try to muffle black voices by centring themselves. There are a LOT of resources out there that can help you start. Do NOT ask black people to do the emotional labour of explaining things to you. DO NOT SAY THE N WORD. EVEN IF IT IS IN A RAP SONG. My DMs are open for anyone that feels lost and wants to learn and doesn’t know where to start. I’m also trying to post as much relevant info as I can to my stories - so watch them for more resources. We are all learning everyday, but our silence is KILLING BLACK LIVES. DO NOT STAY SILENT. DO NOT BE COMPLACENT. • • • I know this is a very ridiculous photo to post for this sort of caption, but the insights on my profile say that these are the types of posts that get the highest engagement on my feed as compared to shots that don’t have my face in them, a location, or tags. I’ve chosen it in the hopes that this will ride the current Instagram algorithm and reach as many as it can with all the relevant hashtags and caption content. Please let me know if I can do this any better. | 📸: @mrajcok
