To mark World Heritage Week, here’s a story woven into the very heart of Kolkata, in Esplanade - the Tipu Sultan Mosque, one of Kolkata’s most iconic silhouettes. Tipu Sultan never set foot in Calcutta, yet his legacy lives here through his son, Prince Ghulam Mohammed Shah, who built this mosque in 1842 in honour of the Tiger of Mysore. With its striking arches, and green domes, the mosque has watched the city change and still stands tall, serene and steadfast. This is Kolkata where old stones whisper legends, new skylines rise around them, and together they keep the city’s timeless stories alive.
