I celebrated Bhaidooj with a holy dip in the Yamuna—here’s why: On this auspicious day, it is believed that bathing in the sacred Yamuna with brother frees brothers from the fear of Yamaraj and grants them longevity and prosperity. According to ancient mythology, Yamaraj visited his sister Yamuna, who welcomed him with a tilak and prayers for his long life. Pleased by her gesture, Yamaraj blessed all siblings who observe this ritual together. A large crowd gathered today at the Yamuna, but it feels truly meaningful to understand the history and significance behind this ritual as per Hindu tradition.
