This fabric came all the way from Seelampur, Shanti Mohalla, and trust me—it wasn’t cheap. The shopkeeper promised he’d get it dyed exactly the way I wanted and deliver it to my home within 2 days, free of cost. But things didn’t go as planned. With only 15 days left before the wedding, it took him an entire week to arrange and dye the fabric because he didn’t have the required quantity in stock. And when it finally arrived, neither the main fabric nor the lining was the shade I had asked for. It looked completely different. At that point, I had no option but to work with what I had. My original plan was to make a lehenga, but with this color it looked too bridal—and that wasn’t the vibe I was going for. Since the wedding was in June, I also wanted something comfortable that would let me move around freely without feeling too warm. So I gave it a western twist and designed a corset dress with a clean, body-hugging silhouette instead of a heavy ball gown. The corset added just the right amount of structure and made the outfit feel special enough for the occasion rather than looking like an everyday dress. While making it, I was honestly full of doubts. There were moments when I wasn’t sure if it would turn out the way I imagined. I just kept reminding myself to trust the process and trust my skills. And somehow… it all came together. This entire dress was made in just 23 working hours, with only a 4-hour sleep break in between. The very next day, we left for the wedding! I had originally bought 6 metres of fabric because my first design idea required much more. This final design used only 4 metres, and thanks to the generous width of the fabric, I still have enough left to create another outfit someday. Every outfit has a story, and this one taught me that sometimes the best designs come from unexpected changes. So… how do you like it? I’d love to know your thoughts. ♥️
