Goa in the monsoon — the interior, the ghats, and the villages behind the coastline. Everyone knows about 30 kilometres of Goa. The beaches, the shacks, the strip that fills up in December. Behind it, the state keeps going for another 70 — paddy fields, laterite hills, the Western Ghats, and a railway line that runs through all of it. This is Goa in the rain. The fields flood and the farmers go back to work. The rivers that were dry stone in April come down off the hills. The green arrives so fast it looks artificial. Every travel guide will tell you not to visit Goa in the monsoon. I think they're protecting it. If you've only seen Goa in December, you haven't seen Goa.
