Goa monsoon in the villages of Goa — the season nobody sells you. Eleven months of the year, Goa belongs to everyone. In July, it goes back to its own people — the villages, the fields, the rain. This is Goa's monsoon landscape. The villages past the beaches, where the monsoon arrives and the whole place changes hands. The paddy fields flood. The farmers go back to work. The streams that were dry stone in April come down off the hills with a sound you can hear from the road. And the children walk to the temple with umbrellas, through rice fields that are, for a few weeks, the greenest place in India. Every travel guide will tell you not to visit Goa in the monsoon.
