Day 2 | #AlumniRetreat Right off the bat, acclaimed writer Anu Singh Choudhary and talented actor Sarika Singh addressed the elephant in the room: Imposter syndrome. Such admission allowed us to open up, especially about the way gender disparity sneaks into our lives. As they shared their personal stories in the world of cinema, we started thinking about the ways fictional worlds represent our realities. Sarika discussed her journey from struggling to being cast to struggling against being typecasted in specific roles. She also spoke about the responsibility of being an actor and what it means to have your politics in place. Meanwhile, Anu highlighted a fundamental difference between a hero's journey and a heroine's journey. So what is the difference? For Anu, it's awareness. Women characters seem to be more aware and are always trying to resolve an internal conflict; something she feels doesn't hold true for men. Both Anu and Sarika's honesty left us wanting so much more for women: Both in films and in reality. #films #cinema #women
