₹80,952,560,000. That is the current annual budget of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the richest civic authority in India. To put that into perspective, this single city municipal budget is larger than the entire annual budgets of states like Goa, Sikkim, and Tripura combined. Yet, year after year, the story remains exactly the same. A few hours of heavy rain, and India’s financial capital completely shuts down. The Reality Check: Roads turn into rivers. Local trains grind to a halt. Hardworking citizens lose hours navigating dangerous, waterlogged streets. Every year, thousands of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and honest taxpayers choose to leave India. People often debate why this brain drain happens. Is it just for better salaries? No. It’s for basic dignity and standard of living. When you pay top-tier taxes, you expect baseline infrastructure: roads that don’t crumble, drainage systems that work, and a city that doesn’t collapse under the first heavy downpour. When the richest municipal corporation in the country struggles to deliver flood-free monsoons despite thousands of crores allocated to capital expenditure, it forces a tough question: Where is the accountability for the taxpayers’ money? If we want India’s wealth and talent to stay in India, our infrastructure needs to start matching our tax brackets. What are your thoughts on Mumbai’s current monsoon situation? Let’s discuss in the comments. #MumbaiRains #BMCBudget #Taxpayers #Infrastructure #Mumbai Governance BrainDrain
