Following the 1973 Oil Embargo and massive gas lines in America, the U.S. made a high-stakes deal with Saudi Arabia. The Deal: The U.S. provided military protection. The Price: Saudi Arabia agreed to sell oil exclusively in Dollars. This created a global "need" for the greenback, allowing the U.S. to print money and finance its national debt through "Petrodollar Recycling."
