In a landmark move towards sustainable development, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has created the country’s first dedicated wildlife corridor on a national highway. The innovative 12-kilometre stretch, part of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, cuts through the buffer zone of the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve and is equipped with five wildlife overpasses and India’s longest underpass built exclusively for animal movement. This stretch marks a significant milestone in Indian infrastructure — the first time an expressway has been designed to prioritise both human travel and wildlife protection.
