• Toddlerhood is a specific developmental stage. Toddlers are ages 1 to 3. Not 4 year olds. Not 5 year olds. This stage is shaped by rapid brain growth, limited skills, and big emotions. • Toddlers live in the present moment. They don’t remember the rule from a couple of days ago. They don’t hold future consequences in mind. They don’t act with ling-term thinking. Impulse always wins…for now. • Language is still very limited. Even if they’re impressing you daily with all their new language, this skill is still very limited. They feel more than they can say. So feelings come out as crying, yelling, throwing, hitting, and more. • Toddler tantrums are not only normal, they are developmentally necessary. Tantrums are how toddlers release overwhelm and communicate emotions. Your job isn’t to stop them, it’s to stay close, calm, and steady while you ride them out. • Toddlers cannot regulate themselves. They don’t calm down on their own. They don’t choose to behave better or worse. The skills required for regulation are simply not yet available. • Toddlers are not manipulative. They don’t plot. They don’t scheme. They don’t have that capacity yet. They act based on impulse, emotions, and need. • They need you more than perfect parenting. They need your presence. Your calm. Your consistency. Not perfection, just steadiness. #parentingtips #toddlerlife #toddlermomlife #understandingtoddlers #parentingadvice
