I won’t always be there when someone says something hurtful to my child 💛 And honestly, that’s a hard truth to sit with. Because these moments don’t happen in front of us. They happen at the park, in school, between friends. Little words… but they hurt big. “Why are you like this?” “No one wants to play with you.” “You’re not good at anything.” When kids hear things like this, their body reacts before their mind can. They freeze. They shut down. They doubt themselves. And that’s why I believe we practice these moments at home. Not to make our kids tough. Not to teach them to ignore their feelings. Not to pretend words don’t hurt. But to help them stay steady when someone tries to shake their confidence. We practice spelling. We practice sports. We practice interviews and performances. But we rarely practice the moments that actually shape how our children see themselves. Confidence shouldn’t only exist when everyone is kind. Self-worth shouldn’t depend on being chosen or included. Resilience isn’t something children just “figure out.” It’s learned. Slowly. With repetition. So we talk about it at home. We say the words out loud. We make it familiar. Because the goal isn’t to raise a child who never gets hurt. It’s to raise a child who doesn’t lose themselves when it happens 🤍 Want to start this at home?
