The Uttar Pradesh government, acting on an Allahabad High Court directive, has banned the use of caste references in police records, official documents, public spaces, and rallies. Authorities have termed caste glorification “anti-national” and against constitutional morality. As per the new order, FIRs, arrest memos, and other police formats will now mention parent names instead of caste. Caste symbols, slogans, and stickers on vehicles or signboards must be removed, and caste-based political rallies are prohibited. Social media will also be monitored to prevent caste-related violations, with exceptions allowed only under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The directive requires amendments in police manuals and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance.
