What happened in Pahalgam is heartbreaking. The ones who survived may have escaped physically, but they’ve stepped into a different kind of torment, one that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. I say this not as an outsider, but from a place of lived experience. I was just a newborn when the exodus happened. I have no conscious memory of it, yet not a single day goes by when I don’t see myself in dreams—running, hiding, being chased by terrorists, dodging bullets, just trying to survive. It’s a pain buried so deep that it weaves itself into your subconscious, shaping the way you breathe, trust, and exist. And now, these people—who went to the valley with hope in their hearts, just to spend a few peaceful days—have been punished for that hope. For simply wanting to enjoy the beauty of a homeland that should belong to all. The tragedy isn’t just in the violence. It’s in the fact that they’ll carry this trauma forever—for no fault of their own.
