One of the attractions during my visit to Udaipur was the Roothi Rani ka Mahal built by Maharana Jai Singh around 1680-1698 AD. The Mahal was built for the Maharana’s youngest queen who got upset with Maharana Jai Singh for not giving her enough time. She decided to leave the king forever and moved into this Mahal -hence the name “Roothi Rani Ka Mahal” The Mahal is around 48km from Udaipur and is located at a place called Jaisamand. During monsoons the Mahal is a piece of heaven for trek lovers and the view from the top is to die for. The beautiful Mahal is now in ruins and is maintained by the archaeological department.
