These are pure memories.. from 1947 onwards… letters during partition, letters of hope and peace… letters of reconciliation, recommendation and references… letters of well being, safety and promises. My Great Grandfather travelled across the country and planned to settle in Dehradun, working with the Survey of India, before partition. My Amma(grandmother) had several stories to share about how people who left for Lahore, Abottabad, Sindh and other places would write to my Baba(grandfather) asking him about the situation now, their family members who were left behind and their houses-the ones which they build, the ones they planned to and the ones which were left behind… I read the letters from the 40’s & 50’s… despair, grief and a sense of abandonment. I wish I could meet only one of them to tell them how we handled it in this side of the country.
