'There's an American photographer named Thomas Joshua Cooper. Have you heard of him?' Devaki shook her head. 'He's old and frail now but risks his life for taking each of his photographs to this day. I read somewhere that the camera he uses is a five-by-seven-inch field camera, which is essentially a wooden box that was built way back in 1898. It is heavy and fragile and makes his life difficult, for he has to carry it around to the locations where he shoots. But he refuses to leave it behind and lugs it to every corner of the earth. His labour brings him happiness, because it is born out of love. Trying to protect it from the world has proven near fatal for him on a few occasions, but he refuses to adapt to the modern ways of doing things. At least when it comes to taking photographs.
