We are the moms of the night. We come out when we're exhausted, and it's dark outside, when there’s no noise in the house besides the come-and-get-me , Or of a hungry baby, Or of missing mommy, Or of a 9-year-old with a bad cough, Or of a one with a nightmare, and the noisy thoughts in our heads.... We pitter-patter down the hall in a fog of exhaustion, bodies aching. We aren’t basking in the glow of motherhood. We’re slightly irritated because we have to rock our babies, shushing, swaying, and praying for sleep, lay with them snuggling close to comfort them, and search under the bed and closets to assure there are no monsters. But soon, these nights when we want them to stay asleep with everything within us will disappear. We'll be alone in our thoughts, worrying about their studies or if they're making good decisions. We’ll miss the stillness of the night. The peaceful alone time enveloped in each other away from their siblings and the hustle of the day-to-day. So, we are the moms of the night, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭.
