This was the most unique craft I have seen during my time in Kochi - Chinese Fishing Nets An Ancient Technique Still Thriving Chinese fishing nets, also known as fixed lift nets, are a unique and iconic type of fishing gear found primarily along the southern coast of China, particularly in the regions of Fujian and Guangdong. These impressive structures have been used for centuries and offer a glimpse into the rich maritime history and culture of the region. - These are Made of bamboo or wood, these nets are supported by three or four sturdy poles that extend upwards from the water. - Stone or concrete weights are attached to the bottom of the net to keep it submerged. - A system of levers and ropes is used to raise and lower the net, with large counterweights providing the lifting power. - The net itself is made of a complex mesh of ropes and lines, creating a large, bag-like structure that traps fish. - Fishermen work together to raise the net out of the water using a system of pulleys and ropes. This is a slow and methodical process that requires coordination and teamwork. - Once raised, the net hangs open, allowing fish to swim into it. As the net is lowered again, the opening closes, trapping the fish inside. - When the net reaches the bottom of the water, the fishermen pull it in and harvest the trapped fish. . .
