A circle is a geometric shape that has many interesting properties and applications. Some of the basic facts about circles are: - A circle is a set of all points in a plane that are at a fixed distance from a given point, called the center¹. - The distance from the center to any point on the circle is called the radius. The diameter of a circle is twice the radius¹. - The circumference of a circle is the length of the boundary of the circle. It is equal to 2π times the radius, where π is a constant that is approximately equal to 3.14¹. - The area of a circle is the amount of space inside the circle. It is equal to π times the square of the radius¹. - A circle can be divided into smaller parts called arcs and sectors. An arc is a part of the circumference of a circle, and a sector is a region bounded by an arc and two radii². - A circle can also be related to angles and trigonometry. One way to measure angles is by using radians, which are based on the ratio of the arc length to the radius. One radian is equal to the angle subtended by an arc whose length is equal to the radius². - A circle can have various shapes inscribed or circumscribed by it, such as triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons. An inscribed shape is one that fits inside the circle, touching it at some points. A circumscribed shape is one that surrounds the circle, touching it at some points². - A circle can also have lines that are tangent to it, which means they touch the circle at exactly one point and do not cross it. A line that passes through the center of a circle and intersects it at two points is called a chord.
