Patachitra, originating from Bengal, is one of India’s oldest surviving art forms, believed to be over 2,000 years old. The word comes from the Sanskrit “Pata” meaning cloth scroll and “Chitra” meaning picture. Together, it refers to painted scrolls that narrate stories through both visuals and songs.
