Okay, listen… Bold makeup in dance aren’t just for aesthetics. they help the audience sitting far away understand the intricate emotions and stories being told through abhinaya (expressions). Since I perform Bharatanatyam and Kathak majorly, I’ve noticed a key difference between the two when it comes to eye makeup specifically. The eye makeup for Kathak is more subtle compared to Bharatanatyam, and I always wondered why! At first, I thought it might just be a style choice, but then I realized it’s because of how the eyes are used in each form. In Bharatanatyam, our limbs can stay still while our eyes move dramatically to tell a story. Here, bold and exaggerated eye makeup is crucial to highlight those movements. But in Kathak, the principle of “yatho hasta thatho drishti” means the hands and eyes work together, and even the head moves along with the eyes. So, the focus isn’t solely on the eyes, and exaggerated eye makeup isn’t as necessary. It’s such an interesting distinction that reflects how makeup truly aligns with the style and storytelling of each dance form. . #classicaldance #BoldMakeup #Bharatanatyam #Kathak #IndianClassicalDance #MakeupSecrets #StageReady #Abhinaya #DanceLife #DancerGram #PerformersLife #DanceExpressions #TraditionAndArt #StorytellingThroughDance #IndianCulture #behindthescenes #bangalorediaries #rachnaamin
