While most massive fast-food chains fight for expensive real estate in Tier-1 metros, Gurugram-based founder Neelam Singh did the exact opposite. Growing up in Agra, she noticed that small-town outings were strictly limited to local sweet shops and bakeries because modern, westernized café culture simply didn’t exist there. Armed with an MBA in Marketing and experience in the catering industry, she set out to bridge this massive gap. Founded in 2018 with an initial investment of just ₹10–15 lakh, The Burger Company started as a modest 250-square-foot store in Palam Vihar, Gurugram, with seating for only 10 customers. Recognizing the potential for rapid scaling, Neelam used her catering background to build a brilliant, chef-independent operating model driven entirely by picture-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This unique system allowed completely untrained staff to master the entire kitchen operation within just 3 to 4 days. Following the pandemic, the brand pivoted heavily toward a Franchise Owned, Franchise Operated (FOFO) model to aggressively expand into Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets. By bringing affordable American-style burgers and vibrant café dining to underserved cities, the brand rapidly scaled. Today, The Burger Company has served nearly 3 lakh customers, commands roughly 180 outlets across the nation, and clocks an incredible ₹80 crore in annual revenue—proving that India’s small towns hold massive potential for disruptive businesses.
