Here’s to eating however the fuck I want. Unfiltered, unapologetic, unbothered. Because food is meant to be savored, devoured, relished—not picked apart with hesitation or measured in dainty, acceptable bites. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with food. Some days, it’s comfort, indulgence, a celebration. Other days, it’s guilt, restraint, a battle between desire and discipline. Growing up, I learned that a woman’s appetite—whether for food, pleasure, or space—must always be managed, made smaller, made palatable for the world. But I refuse to shrink myself down to fit someone else’s expectations. There’s something oddly political about a woman eating freely. Take big bites, and it’s ‘too much.’ Lick your fingers clean, and it’s ‘unladylike.’ Eat loudly, and suddenly, you’re a spectacle. The same people who find it fascinating also find it offensive. But when a man does the same? It’s just eating. But I’m done performing. I’m done making myself smaller. Eating exactly how I want—greedy, messy, indulgent—is my own quiet rebellion. A reclaiming of space, of pleasure, of joy. Because in that moment, I am fully myself. And there is nothing more freeing than that. Speaking to @adrija_majumder_ the other day, she said Bollywood really needs more songs about food. Enough with the love songs, guys. Give us an anthem for licking the plate clean, for that first bite of biryani, for the sacred act of sharing a meal. Love is great, but have you ever had the perfectly tok phuchkar jol? Or some mukhorochok tok jhaal mishti ?😍
