I’m 31 And I wish I got this earlier… Doing good work is not enough It should be But it isn’t Workplaces don’t just reward performance They reward perception What people think of you What’s said when you’re not around Who backs you That matters just as much You can be great at your job And still get sidelined Not because you’re incapable Because you ignored the people game There are two skills Doing the work And navigating the room You need both Also Not everyone at work is your friend Be careful what you share And with whom Because once it’s out You don’t control where it goes Another shift You need boundaries A professional version of you And a personal one Don’t mix them blindly And yes A lot of it feels performative Looking busy Staying visible Playing the optics game But ignoring it completely Costs you Also Not everyone wants you to win Some will compete quietly Some will pull you down Especially if you make things look easy That’s the reality So decide Do you learn to play the game Or do you walk away and choose a different one Both work Just don’t stay unaware #careeradvice #workplacerealities #professionalgrowth #officepolitics#offbeatlife
