An 8,000-pound resin beehive sculpted by Karen Atta in her West 31st Street studio — crafted from six polyurethane honeycomb lobes ranging from 500 to 3,500 pounds! Suspended from the ceiling like it’s hanging from a tree branch, it’s what designer Ralph Appelbaum calls “the grand story of the exhibit and a visual icon to the street.” Its placement in the Gilder Center beautifully connects art, architecture, and the natural world.
