Removing the Mughals from textbooks does not remove them from history. For over three centuries, the Mughal Empire shaped the political, cultural, architectural, and economic landscape of the Indian subcontinent. Their legacy is etched into some of the world’s most iconic monuments, from the Taj Mahal and Red Fort to Fatehpur Sikri and Humayun’s Tomb. During much of the Mughal era, India was among the world’s largest economies, contributing a significant share of global GDP. The period witnessed advancements in administration, taxation systems, trade networks, art, literature, miniature painting, urban development, and architecture that continue to influence South Asia today. History is not a matter of approval or disapproval—it is a record of what happened. Great civilizations are remembered not because everyone agrees with them, but because their impact was too significant to ignore. You can remove chapters, revise textbooks, or change narratives, but you cannot erase centuries of influence that helped shape a nation’s culture, economy, language, art, and identity. History should be studied, debated, and understood—not forgotten.
