Orangutans are great apes, not monkeys, and are the only great ape species native to Asia. The name "orangutan" comes from the Malay words "orang" (person) and "hutan" (forest), translating to "person of the forest". The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia, established in 1964, is a world-renowned facility for rehabilitating orphaned, injured, or displaced orangutans and returning them to the wild.
