The Ganga, after merging into the ocean… is no longer the Ganga. This teaching of the Buddha can truly transform the way you think. Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Narmada, Kaveri, Godavari… and countless other rivers. Different sources. Different paths. Different names. But when all these rivers flow into the ocean… what happens? Their separate identities no longer remain. No one can tell which water was from the Ganga and which from the Yamuna. All become one… of the same taste. The Buddha said: In exactly the same way, O people— when individuals from many castes, many religions, many sects enter into the Dhamma taught by the Buddha… Their caste no longer remains. Their sect no longer remains. Their old identity no longer remains. They belong to no class. They belong to no division. They are simply… followers of the Dhamma. Dhamma is like a vast ocean— where all streams come together as one. Where there is no high or low, no discrimination— only humanity, only equality, only compassion. This is the greatness of the Dhamma taught by the Buddha. Where no one is small, no one is great. Where there is only the human being… and humanity itself. That is why the Buddha said— Dhamma is for everyone, belongs to everyone, and all belong to the Dhamma.
