How to hook the attention of your listener in the first second when speaking? Simple. Just ASK. I never start a session by EXPLAINING what we’re going to discuss. Because the moment you start lecturing, people start drifting, ESPECIALLY in this day and age where ‘information’ is so abundant, it no longer holds the currency value it used to. Information feels generic to most. Information lulls people to sleep. But a question? A question wakes them up. A question excites your listener. AND their brain. It’s biology, really. If I ask you something, your brain HAS to process it, even if the answer is, ‘Well, I dont know?” But it still HAD to go through the effort of framing that simple answer, and in doing so, it got HOOKED to the person who asked the question. And just like that, I have your attention. Don’t tell them ‘Public speaking is hard.’ Ask them ‘Who here has ever felt their fingers fidgeting with fright right before a meeting?’ The more you ask, the more you engage, and the more you intrigue. Ask curiously, Speak creatively. #SpeakBold
