In most organizations, disengagement doesn’t come from laziness or lack of capability. It comes from feeling unseen, unheard, and replaceable. When people believe they matter, something shifts: They stop doing the minimum. They start taking ownership. Here’s what makes people feel they truly matter: ⮩ Leaders who listen without interrupting or dismissing. ⮩ Feedback that acknowledges effort, not just outcomes. ⮩ Inclusion in decisions that affect their work. People don’t withhold effort because work is demanding. They withhold it when the environment feels indifferent. If you want commitment, you must first offer consideration.
