Is this the right time to buy Silver ETF? What exactly pushed silver prices up? . . Everyone around is talking about Silver.  9th October price rally was not just because of silver price increase but something more than that, A classis Arbitrage example. Let us unfold what really hapened. Silver ETFs are structured in a way that each unit of ETF is created by depositing equal amount of actual silver commodity with AMCs, on regular basis. Thus the ETFs move in line with commodity prices.  What Happend on 9th october: Due to recent frenzy and hype around silver being more valuable and its wide industrial application, demand for this comoddity has surged in recent times. Silver being low in supply, is unable to keep up with the increasing demand. On 9th october, market makers couldnt arrange the commodity that is required to be deposited with AMCs. This increased demand for Silver ETF units and their low supply, led to price increase. Though the  underlyi g comodity increased by ~4.5%, the ETF prices were up ~7-8% creating an Arbitrage opportunity. People could sell their ETFs at higher prices and buy underlying comosity at lower prices at '0' risk. Main question lies here is can you do this now? These type of Arbitrage opportunities are rare occurings and are adjusted quickly by market pressures, So if you can spot them, you could probably make profits. #silver #etf #etfs #stockmarket
