Many came here with a dream. A new life in the mountains. Leaving behind jobs, routines, and everything familiar to start again. Savings were spent, leases signed, loans taken, homes and businesses built. Now the mountains are collapsing under the weight of it all. Roads are gone. Savings, futures, stability hanging by a thread. Some things were in our hands: the choice to come, the risks we took. Some never were: the floods, the landslides, the ground shifting beneath us. No one imagines their dream reaching this point, standing in front of collapse, forced to ask what was ever really in their control. The work now is to hold both truths. That we chose to dream, to risk, to begin again.
