There was so much in their way that either strengthened them or broke them completely. Violet is everything and much sweeter and more strong-willed, but Gavin, in the guise of a jerk, comes out buttery and soft, and that makes a place without knowing. The story is refreshing without lingering too much in the past, focusing only on the present, new insecurities in the relationship, and uncertainty of future career possibilities. The presence of Daisy and Jordan is a bummer. This novel is not a match for the first one, but it has its strengths. Every remark in Jane Auster's historical romances and novels hits the heart.
