The Mehrangarh Fort is in many ways the epicentre of Jodhpur, both in terms of history as well as contemporary tourism. The massive monument that covers an area of 1,200 acres was built in the mid-15th century by Rao Jodha, the king who founded the city of Jodhpur. The fort complex stands on a hill that overlooks the city and a series of seven gates secure entry to its heart. Inside the fort complex are some exquisite palaces like Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal and others. There is a museum with several galleries that showcase the lifestyle of the royals.
