We all have been body shamed in some or the other way…The sad part is, most of us buy them and curse our very own existence or try and bring about a change in the way we look, only to fit into the “beauty standards” set in by the society. Relax, it was just a joke.’ That line has been used far too often to excuse body shaming, backhanded compliments, and comments that cut deeper than they should. But here’s the truth: if the joke is at someone else’s expense especially about how they look …it’s not funny. Yes we believe in taking responsibility for our own overall health, both mental and physical. If someone body shames you, don’t lower yourself to their level. First choose to simply walk away as you can’t control what another person says or thinks about you. But sometimes it’s important to nip it in the bud for your own mental peace and to let them know that it’s not acceptable. Setting boundaries doesn’t make you sensitive. It makes you self respecting. You are allowed to say, ‘That wasn’t okay.’ You allowed to choose you peace over someone else’s punchline. Grace doesn’t mean letting things slide, it means responding with clarity, without matching the same energy. So the next time someone tries to hide judgment behind humor, you still be kind but be honest and assertive too. To every woman who’s been body shamed…hear this loud and clear: you are not defined by someone else’s opinion of your body. You don’t have to be smaller to be worthy, or ‘perfect’ to be beautiful. Your value isn’t measured in inches, scales, or filters. Yes, working on your health and fitness is important but it should come from a place of self-love, not self-hate. You can want to be stronger, healthier, more energized and still love the body you’re in right now. Fitness is not a punishment for how you look; it’s a celebration of what your body can do. Don’t let the noise of others dim your light. 😊👊🏻 . #bodyshaming #bodyshamingisnotcool #chooseyourpeace #perfectionisamyth #youarebeautiful #selflove #bodyshamingawareness
