Did you know this? 🧐 This Thakurbari has an interesting history: After shifting the family trade from spices to gun powder, Late Shri Nrisingha Prasad Daw, expanded the family business in Rishra on the banks of Hooghly while competing with the better supported and better connected English merchants to take the family business further. As the business expanded and as Kolkata started becoming more of a business center, the business and the family shifted to Kolkata and started residing at 12/2 and 13/1A, Varanasi Ghosh Street (Now Vivekananda Road) roughly between 1791 and 1800. It was at this time that late Shri Shib Narayan Daw, one of the grandsons of the patriarch Late Shri Nrisingha Prasad Daw built a Thakur Dalan with the intention of celebrating Durga Puja, which was in vogue for most old and aristocratic families, in those days. #kolkata #igkolkata #kolkatabloggers #kolkatagram #durgapuja #bengalireels #westbengal #durgapuja2025
