I met my younger self for coffee today. She burst through the door, breathless, a notebook clutched tight, a laptop swinging at her side with the scent of ambition trailing behind her. She sat across from me, her nails tapping the table, Her eyes—bright and restless, scanned the room, the world, the future. “So much to do,” she said, voice urgent. “So much to prove, to achieve, to win.” I could see what the world had taught her— that success was a prize you had to chase, that love had to be earned, that slowing down meant falling behind. I smiled, took a slow sip of my coffee. “Breathe,” I said gently. “The world won’t forget you if you rest.” She hesitated, unsure. I told her about waking up in unfamiliar cities, bare feet on warm sand, poetry tucked in my pockets. Of draping in soft fabrics and softer hearts, and moving like the ocean—intense yet unhurried. That love, the kind that feels like home, finds you when you make peace with your rawest self. She traced the rim of her cup, thinking. Her shoulders softened, just a little. And when she left, her steps were lighter, as if she had loosened her grip on the race. As if, for the first time, she finally understood— she was always free.
