Many visits to Nainital, but, I’ve never understood my parents’ fascination with this place. But this time, when we were all boating together, I saw my father not only enjoying the surroundings but himself, taking his selfies, smiling, relaxing while someone else was riding a means of commuting for him (for a change). It suddenly clicked to me; it’s not the place but the feeling. The comfort of familiarity with the lanes of Nainital and the people there. The feeling of being able to spend time with his family away from the city and heat. The joy of change in scenery and being able to visit temples that he’s so fond of. Guess I’m going to stop being so reluctant to go there with them and try more to be happy with what makes them happy.
