The colourful costumes, the mesmerizing music, & the scintillating dance steps transported us to a different world at the Janapada Loka, Ramanagara, on the occasion of World Folklore Day. It was an event organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India, Bengaluru, and Karnataka Janapada Parishath. The event showcased the rich heritage of Karnataka's folk arts and was an opportunity for us and many others to get an immersive experience of a world that once existed, the world of Janapada Loka, that connects you with your roots & bridges the chasm of time, opening a window to the past. Here are some glimpses of the cultural extravaganza that unfolded at the Janapada Loka. Plan a visit to Janapada Loka, which is around 55 km from Bengaluru to experience a slice of the rich folk art, culture & heritage of Karnataka 1 Proud to be photographed with a Somana Kunitha artist, Somana Kunitha is a ritual dance performed in honour of village deities 2 A video depicting Halakki Suggi Kunitha, a harvest dance 3 Somanna Kunitha performance in progress at the gate of Janapada Loka 4 Folk musicians with musical instruments like Tamate & Nagari who provide the throbbing music to the dancers 5 A Kamsale Dance performance in progress, Kamsale Kunitha is performed by devotees of the deity Mahadeshwara and involves acrobatic moves 6 Huli Vesha or Tiger dance as the name suggests features a dancer dressed as a tiger 7 Pata Kunitha is a dance in which the dancers hold a bamboo pole festooned with colourful buntings 8 Pooja Kunitha is a ritualistic dance performed as part of Shakti worship. The dancer carries the idol in a decorated wooden enclosure and balances it on his head 9 It is heartening to see the Min. of Tourism, Govt of India, Bengaluru, taking the initiative to ensure that the rich folk heritage of Karnataka is nurtured. Honoured to be in the same frame as Shri Mohamed Farouk, Director 10 The future of our heritage lies in the hands of the younger generations. It is nice to see them absorbing the nuances of Karnataka's heritage #WorldFolkloreDay #janapada #janapadaloka #karnatakatourism #incredibleindia #Ramanagara #karnataka #VisitKarnataka #heritageofindia
