In late June 2025, 19-year-old pilot Ethan Guo landed his Cessna on King George Island in Antarctica without approval. He'd filed a flight plan saying he would circle Punta Arenas, Chile, but instead headed to the continent, claiming he faced "complications" mid-flight. Chilean authorities immediately arrested him for submitting a false flight plan and violating international aviation rules. Guo has been attempting to become the youngest person to fly solo to all seven continents and raise money for childhood cancer research, a journey that began in May 2024. By landing where he shouldn't have, he triggered protocols for unauthorized access to Antarctic airspace. A Chilean court has ordered a 90-day investigation, and he remains detained under restrictions from both Chile and the Antarctic Treaty. Some people online are speculating that Antarctica hides more than scientific stations-that Guo might have stumbled onto restricted zones or secret facilities. As of July 11, 2025, no evidence supports any conspiracy.
