Kijiji: Where Gurugram's Skyline Meets Indo-Afro Ambition There's something to be said for restaurants that refuse to play it safe. In a city where every second establishment claims to be a "lounge" or a "gastropub," Kijiji - On The Roof in Sector 47, Gurugram, has taken a rather audacious route: an Indo-Afro fusion theme paired with a menu that spans continents with the enthusiasm of a culinary Marco Polo. The name itself—Kijiji, meaning 'village' in Swahili—hints at the restaurant's conceptual ambitions. But this is no village. Perched on a rooftop with sweeping views of Gurugram's concrete and glass skyline, it's a thoroughly urban experience, albeit one dressed in earthy textures and warm, ethnic motifs that suggest somewhere far more exotic than the DLF corridor. The Setting The first thing that strikes you about Kijiji is its aesthetic commitment. The Indo-Afro fusion isn't merely a decorative afterthought; it's woven into the very fabric of the space. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and on the evening I visited, the outdoor section was alive with the gentle hum of conversation and the strains of live singing—competent, thankfully, and at just the right volume to enhance rather than overwhelm. The views, as promised, deliver. Watching the Gurugram skyline light up as dusk settles is reason enough to make the trip, and the restaurant has wisely designed its seating to maximize this advantage. The Menu: Ambition on a Plate Now, when a restaurant offers North Indian, Chinese, Sushi, Italian, and what they call "Afro-fusion" dishes, one's natural instinct is to worry. Can any kitchen truly master such diversity? The short answer, based on my experience, is: partially. I began with The Talking Pot, a theatrical presentation of Udon noodles swimming in a hot garlic sauce. The concept is clever—the dish arrives with a certain flourish, steam rising dramatically from the pot. The execution was competent. The noodles had the right bite, the garlic was assertive without being aggressive, and there was a pleasant heat that built gradually. Not exceptional, but perfectly enjoyable.
