Last Saturday on Road no 36, Jubilee Hills looks all set to take over the buzz and more from its predecessor Farzi Cafe. It has a perfect location, great vibe, especially the bright well-lit, main bar area with its DJ console. Founder Teja Chekuri (of Prost, Ironhill Brewery etc fame) knows his F&B and that’s amply evident in the “globally-inspired” menu (if I heard right some 160 dishes?! ), which has mostly pan Asian (no sushi, though as he thinks it’s mostly a posturing food choice) and Indian, with a good representation of Hyderabadi classics. Ths drinks are crafted perfect, and I loved my dark rum-banana-vanilla cocktail called inexplicably All Of Us are Dead! My personal food faves were haleem buns (stuffed with some 90g of mutton, not less ) and paired with some delicious marag, made slightly runnier to dunk your haleem buns into. Cheesy mushroom pockets, Chicken lettuce wrap, Firecracker prawns, were all great but it was the Ulavacharu Porridge Pot, which was the gamechanger. Deep in both it’s dark chocolate hue as well as its taste, this one is both soul food and gourmet stuff, has both millets and lentils in the upavacharu broth and topped with ths usual South Indian tadka. In desserts, both the Ras Leches (Ras Malai with both a filling and garnish of Gajar Ka Halwa) and the Birds Nest make excellent choices. Something tells me this one is going to rock!
