MHA has officially revoked the detention of Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA) with immediate effect. Wangchuk had been held for nearly six months, primarily in Jodhpur Jail, following violent protests in Leh on September 24, 2025. The government stated the decision aims to foster an “environment of peace, stability, and mutual trust” to facilitate dialogue regarding Ladakh’s demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule protection. Notably, this release comes just three days before a scheduled Supreme Court hearing on a habeas corpus petition filed by his wife, Gitanjali Angmo.
